The market value of water utilities in rural Bangladesh for people that have not yet been serviced is estimated to be $285 million. Even with access to water, it often becomes contaminated through improper transport and storage. Safe (piped) water available inside the house has a positive impact on health, children’s development, the position of women and girls in society and economic development of the country. The potential market and the need is significant. Water companies are not jumping in to fill the demand, and that’s because they don’t believe in the business case.
