Social enterprises often struggle to find the right contact within and work together with municipalities and public authorities. The procurement policy of local authorities also need a rethink, to generate more opportunities for social enterprises. These are two of the main conclusions of PwC’s report ‘Early opportunities: cooperation between social enterprises and municipalities in the Netherlands’, presented to the G40 network of cities last spring. Just 40% of local authorities have policy in place geared towards fostering and facilitating social entrepreneurship. Despite the fact that municipal policy in this regard is still at an incipient stage, PwC deems the cooperation to be promising.
During this Roundabout, social enterprises, representatives from municipalities and other interested parties are invited to discuss the main findings of this research and the possible solutions and best practices to overcome the challenges in the cooperation between social enterprises and municipalities.
